UN RESOLUTION 339 |
The cease-fire demanded by the UN in Security Council Resolution 338 on October 22, 1973 did not take hold. With fighting in Egypt still going on, Egypt asked for a meeting of the Security Council. The council held an urgent meeting, and Resolution 339, submitted jointly by the Soviet Union and the United States, was adopted on October 23 with 14 votes for, none against and no abstentions (China did not participate in the voting).
Like Resolution 338, this resolution is quite short, demanding that:
